About LakeOntarioPorts.com
LakeOntarioPorts.com combines the extraordinary
visualization capabilities of Google Maps with a comprehensive directory
of marine destinations on Lake Ontario.
The purpose of the site is to help boaters plan
voyages to Lake Ontario destinations. Here are some of the ways this
site can make planning your next voyage easier:
- Set your location. Use the "Set Location" link
below the map to establish your home base. Once set, all search
results will include the distance from your location for each result.
- What's near? Say you want to visit the Kingston area,
but aren't sure what marinas and yacht clubs are in the vicinity. To
find out, simply click on the map near Kingston, then click the "What's near?"
link just above the map.
- Measuring distances. To find the distance between any
two points on the map, click the "Measure" link just below the map, then
select your two points. The distance between them in nautical miles will
be shown just above the measure link.
- Tags. Each location on the lake is "tagged" with
descriptive attributes. For example, to find fuel services, or locations
with WIFI Internet, simply search for "fuel" or "wifi".
- NOAA chart overlay. As an additional planning aid, you
can view the map with an NOAA Raster Navigation Chart (RNC) overlaid on
a satellite view. Just click the "NOAA" button in the top right corner of the
map.
