Frenchman's Bay

Location

Lat: 43° 48.62' Lon: -79° 5.08'

Description

Frenchman’s Bay is easily recognizable from the water by the Pickering Nuclear facility, and adjacent over-sized windmill—the Pickering Wind Generation Station.

When entering the bay, it pays to be cautious. The narrow entrance channel is flanked by submerged rocks on either side. Larger boats should wait until the channel is clear so they can stay close to the center.

The Frenchman’s Bay Yacht Club is located on the western shore of the bay. The eastern short is occupied by several marinas, including Swan’s Marina, a dealer for Catalina Yachts, C&C Yachts, Tartan Yachts, and Larson power boats.

On the lakeshore just east of the bay you will find the recently re-developed (2003/2004) Frenchman’s Bay East Park. The playground on the beach and sprinkler park is a big hit with the kids.

The City of Pickering has also developed several walking trails around the Frenchman’s Bay waterfront.
